Obituary

Eight-year-old Adelia, known as Adelia the Wonder Girl, of Hingham, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully in the arms of her mother and stepfather on May 30, 2024 after a courageous 15-month battle with Diffuse Midline Glioma (DMG), an aggressive and incurable form of brain cancer.

Adelia was a kind and gentle soul who left us all too soon. She was a caring and thoughtful friend, a patient and model big sister, and an unconditionally loving daughter. She was an avid reader with an enormous appetite to learn. She dreamed of being in the national spelling bee, having her stories published into books, and becoming a veterinarian or a teacher. She was a talented violinist, a creative artist, and a dancing queen. Adelia was a passive observer, absorbing everything until she felt ready to dive in. She was always thinking a few steps ahead, making her jokes all the more funny and impressive. She was a calm presence in a room, always helping others, sharing her kindness, and encouraging everyone to try their best.

Her beautiful spirit will be sorrowfully missed but will live on through all those who knew and loved her. Her resiliency and strength will continue to inspire us all to try harder, never give up, and to stay positive amidst the most trying of times. She has taught the world to channel sadness and anger into positivity and strength, which will forever be felt by her loving community.

Adelia is survived by her loving family, including her mother Meryl Summers, stepfather Michael McClellan, half-sister Esme, stepmother Hannah Flood, half-brother Connor, grandmother Debbie Summers, grandfather Jim Summers and Phyllis Weinberg, and grandma and grandfather Cathy and Rich Teal. She is survived by her aunts and uncles: Rebecca Summers, Josh Summers and Terry Cockburn, Christine [McClellan] and Brad Robertson, Catherine [McClellan] and Jason Jones, Peggy [McClellan] and Josh Butkus, and Maggie [Teal] and Paul McMorrow. She is fondly remembered by her beloved cousins: Summer, Finley, Abigail, Drew, Owen, Tess, and Jack.

Friends, family, and Adelia the Wonder Girl supporters are invited to attend a candlelight vigil being held on Wednesday, June 19th at 8PM at the Hingham High School soccer field. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Adelia the Wonder Girl Falmouth Road Race team.
