Obituary

Albert (Al) N. Bertelsen of Marshfield, MA died May 22, 2026. The son of Grace Seward Bertelsen and Albert N. Bertelsen (SR), he was born in Exeter, NH on June 27, 1935. The family lived in several locations along the east coast including New Orleans and Washington DC in the late 1930’s and early 1940’s due to Albert Sr’s work for the war department. Eventually they landed in Hingham, MA where Al attended Hingham schools, played basketball for Hingham High, and graduated in 1953.

Al enlisted in the Air Force in 1954 and served until 1958, stationed primarily in Germany. Al then attended Boston University and earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in 1962. Al was a talented graphic artist who contributed to many publications, his favorite being Boston Magazine.

Al lived in the Wethersfield neighborhood of Natick for many years before moving to Weymouth and then retiring to Gulf Breeze, Florida. Trading Florida hurricanes for New England nor’easters, he eventually made his way back to Massachusetts, settling in Marshfield close to family.

Al was an ardent collector. His favorite item was movie memorabilia. He traveled to California numerous times to purchase just the right movie poster or wait for hours for a revered autograph.

Al leaves his two nieces, Jeanne M. Daly (and her husband David) of Marshfield and Barbara A. McNamara of Forestdale, MA who will miss him dearly. He is also survived by his grandnephews Quinlan Daly and Reese Daly. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Bertelsen McNamara. A private interment in Exeter, NH is planned.
