Alyssa Anrea Bates, 49, of Marshfield passed in peace on Friday, April 16, 2021 at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, following a long illness with colon cancer. Born in Philidelphia, PA, daughter of Donald and Ann Johnson, she graduated from UMass Boston with a business degree, and worked for the Marshfield Police Department as the Animal Control Officer for over 5 years.
Alyssa was an animal lover with a bottomless heart who rescued many animals over the years. She enjoyed traveling, frequenting New Hampshire as a favorite destination. She is survived by her loving husband Matthew Bates, her children Anna Ryan, Jessica Beal, Maxwell Beal, stepchildren Dean and Alexandria Bates, and a brother, Marcus Johnson.
Visitation and a memorial service will be held on Monday, April 26 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of her life from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at The Point Restaurant, 93 Central Street in Brant Rock. Per CDC guidelines, masks, social distancing, and capacity requirements will be maintained.
