Obituary

With great sadness, we announce that Amanda Kate O'Connell of Marshfield, 30 years old, passed away unexpectedly on July 15, 2023, in Buckhead, Georgia. Amanda was the cherished daughter of Edward and Darlene (McCourt) O'Connell and sister of Lindsey O'Connell, all of Marshfield. Preceded in heaven by her grandparents John and Lois O'Connell of Charlestown and Gerald and Helen Elaine McCourt of Lynn, Amanda was the beloved niece of Janet DeYoung and the late George DeYoung of Billerica, Steve O'Connell and Cathy Bennett of Huntersville, North Carolina, Christine and Larry Kane of Hanover, Lorrie Dow of Lynn, and Jere McClory of Lynn; and loving cousin of Rebecca Dow and Otis Wallace, Ray and Harmony Dow, Kevin, Erin, Candice, and Corrine McClory, Marc and Amy, Jennifer, and Scott and Renee DeYoung, Christopher Kane and Alison Graziano and all of her extended family, whom she loved dearly.

Amanda graduated from Marshfield High School in 2011 where she ran Track & Field and developed a passion for photography. She then completed her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University. After graduation, she pursued a career in real estate. In 2018, she accepted a position with Bull Realty in Georgia to expand her experience into the commercial real estate sector.

Amanda loved spending long summer days with her family and friends at Green Harbor beach, swimming, enjoying a lobster roll from the Lobster Pound, and soaking up the sun. In the winter, she would take her ski team expertise and go skiing with family in North Conway, loving our stops to ice skate and have hot chocolate at Nordic Village. She was always active, going to the gym, playing soccer, or choreographing dances to her favorite songs. She was an amazing runner, completing 5ks, half marathons, and more. Over the past few years, her favorite running and walking buddy was her beloved dog, Beau.

Music was a huge part of Amanda's life, having played many instruments including the flute, guitar, and piano. She was never afraid to try something new, and was so eager to learn, taking voice lessons and teaching herself how to DJ. She curated mixtapes and playlists for her loved ones, sharing the power of music to express what words could not. Keeping up with the newest technology came easily to Amanda, as each new tool opened a new path for her creativity. She shared all these talents with others, using her skills and passions to support various organizations such as Hot Shots, the Epilepsy Foundation, and Lost N' Found Youth.

Amanda will be remembered for her kind and thoughtful nature. She felt deeply and loved profoundly. She never wanted others to experience hurt, and would send a sweet picture or funny video or an out of the blue "I love you!" to pick you up when you least expected it. Family was so, so important to her, and she would always be in the center of the action at family functions. Her bubbly nature and eagerness to be involved was infectious. This beautiful personality reflected on the outside, with stunning blue eyes and a radiant smile that lit up the entire room.

While we were separated too soon, our family will forever carry her memory with us, and will embody her spirit of thoughtfulness, generosity, and creativity in everything we do. In her memory, we ask you to remember her spirit in this way: reach out to those you love, bring smiles to others, don't be afraid to try new things, and share your light with the world.
