Ann E. (Thompson) Hayden, of Marshfield, passed away on May 16, 2018 at the age of 87. Beloved wife of the late Edward Hayden; dear mother of Elizabeth Hayden of Austin, TX, Martha Hayden of Salt Lake City, UT, Barbara Hayden of Marshfield, Jonathan Hayden and his wife Brenda of Friendswood, TX, and Theodore Hayden (deceased) and his wife Mary Ellen. Ann is predeceased by her sisters Ruth Swayze, Janice Packard, and Dorothy Casey. She was the loving grandmother to seven grandchildren, Marisa, Nathan, Jonathan, Grace, Sydney, Ian and the late Jacob Hayden, and three great-grandchildren, Riley, Ethan and Kubo. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.
Ann was raised in West Newbury and graduated from Milton High, Douglass College and Bridgewater State University. She spent most of her life as a resident of Marshfield and from 1969 to 1993 was the children's librarian at the Ventress Memorial Library where she was well known for her popular story hours and innovative children's programming. After retirement from the town of Marshfield, she worked as the librarian at the Montessori school in Scituate.
She enjoyed reading, gardening, and playing Mahjong. Her love of travel and the arts led to her volunteering at Marshfield's Senior Center organizing cultural trips around southern New England.
Ann was an active member of St. Christine's Church where she served as a lector for many years.
Remembrances may be made in Ann's name to the Ventress Memorial Library Gift Fund/Children's Library at 15 Library Plaza, Marshfield, MA 02050, or to the Council on Aging, 230 Webster Street, Marshfield, MA 02050.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, May 21, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street (Rte. 139) in Marshfield. Funeral procession from the funeral home on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. in St. Christine's Church, 1295 Main Street, Marshfield. Burial will be in the Couch Cemetery.
