Anthony J. Pacella, Sr, of Weymouth, formerly of Norwell and Dedham passed away on May 8, 2024, at the age of 95. He was the beloved husband of the late Julie M. (Verrochi) Pacella; devoted father of Anthony (Ann McCormick) Pacella, Jr of Plymouth, Eugene (wife Carol) Pacella of Norwell, and Karen (William Hayward) Mariano of Scituate; cherished grandfather of AJ Pacella, Marc Pacella, Craig (wife Hellen) Pacella, Cassandra Pacella, Kyle Pacella, Jonathan (wife Abigail) Mariano, Joshua Mariano, and great-grandchildren Madeline, Evelyn, and Cody Mariano. Son of the late Panfilo and Maria Loretta (DiCenzo) Pacella, Anthony is predeceased by his siblings Querino, Arthur, Michael, Angelo "Mario," John and James Pacella, Mary Paola, and Emma Zenga. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Tony was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend and will be missed dearly by all who loved him. The last surviving sibling of nine children, he was the seventh son and had two younger twin sisters. His parents and several of his brothers were born in Italy. He was close with his siblings and for many years had a regular weekend breakfast with his brothers. He had a deep appreciation for his Italian roots and ancestry.
Growing up during the depression gave him an amazing work-ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit. As a youngster he began working at an early age. By the age of sixteen he was fixing up old cars and selling them. He served in the U.S. Army During the Korean War. Upon his return, he began working with his brothers in construction. He then started his own business and eventually purchased a pipeline company with his brothers-in-law.
Tony was quiet, reserved and stoic, with a deep strength of character and an extremely warm heart. At the same time, he was also open and friendly, and could talk easily to anyone. He loved to travel and experience other cultures. As a member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, he visited Russia, China, and many world-wide countries, even meeting and holding court with the Queen of England.
He was a voracious reader of history and biographies, and a life-long learner. Tony had an amazing recall of historical facts, dates, and figures. He loved his morning walks, especially at their Florida home. Music was another passion, especially opera, big band, and many other genres. He loved spending time outside in his garden growing vegetables and caring for his property.
He lovingly cared for his wife, Julie, during her long battle with Alzheimer's until her passing in January of 2023. Family was Tony's most important priority. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
