Barbara Joan Lukos Brown, a devoted Catholic, loving mother, grandmother, and avid reader, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2023, at the age of 88 in Scituate, MA. She was a long-term resident of Marshfield, MA, where she left a lasting impact on the lives of many through her kindness and dedication.
Born on November 4, 1934, in Boston, Barbara was the cherished daughter of Barbara Barlock and Joseph Lukos, growing up in Sheboygan, WI. She pursued her passion for speech therapy at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI, where she met the love of her life, Roland 'Ron' Charles Brown. They embarked on a journey together, exchanging vows in 1956 and building a beautiful life filled with love and commitment.
Barbara's faith was central to her existence. She found solace and inspiration as a member of St. Christine's Parish, where she selflessly dedicated herself to teaching Sunday School and lending her voice to the choir. Additionally, she sought spiritual growth as a secular member of the Discalced Carmelite Order, Monastery of the Espousal of Mary & Joseph in Brighton, MA. For close to four decades, she found comfort in her connection to the Order and in her deep friendships within the Carmelite community.
A true embodiment of kindness and compassion, Barbara extended her helping hand to those in need. Volunteering at the Marshfield Food Pantry, she made a difference in the lives of those facing adversity, always sharing her warmth and generosity with others.
While raising her six children, Barbara played an instrumental role in the family boat building businesses, contributing to the interior design of both sailing vessels and tug yachts. She also pursued a career in several well-known South Shore restaurants. However, it was her final position as a staff member at Humming Rock Gifts in Humarock that brought her immense joy. The opportunity to interact with people and engage in heartfelt conversations with local friends and visitors enriched her life, and she in turn enriched theirs.
In her leisure time, Barbara embraced her love for baking, reading, music, movies, and PBS television. She loved opening her home to her friends and her children's friends. She remained intellectually curious, staying up to date with current events and offering insightful perspectives on global affairs.
Barbara leaves behind a remarkable legacy of love and kindness. She is reunited in eternity with her parents, sister Janet Lukos of Madonna House, husband Ron, sons Michael and David, granddaughters Catherine Brown and Katja Novin, and her favorite cat, Oreo. She is lovingly remembered by her brother, James David Lukos and wife Lise Gervais of Hull, MA, and her five children, Christina Brown and Michael Bell of Humarock and Stuart, FL, Matthew and Nancy Brown of Humarock, Mark and Kathleen Brown of Pembroke, MA, Anne-Marie and Tim Ludlum of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Monica and Robert Zitz of Aiken, SC, and her six grandchildren, Eben Brown, Mara Brown, Christian Ludlum, Aaron Ludlum, Alex Novin, and Lillian Brown, who will remember her support and affection. Aunt Barbara will also be greatly missed by her nieces Jenny Schminke, Elizabeth Lukos, Barbara Lukos Robinson, and nephew Christopher Lukos, their families, as well as their mother Judy McGoodwin.
