Delano, Barbara E. (Leonard), of Duxbury, passed away on September 1, 2016 at the age of 86. Born February 7, 1930 to Catherine (McCabe) and Francis Leonard. Barbara Elizabeth grew up in Brockton with her two brothers, Robert and John, and attended school there. Upon graduation, she became the assistant to the head master of Brockton High School. Barbara met her future husband, Philip W. Delano, Jr. at a square dance at the Whitman Town hall. Upon Philip's discharge from the Army, they eloped July 19, 1952 in Long Beach, California. After a drive cross country, they settled in Duxbury where they raised 2 daughters, Tracilee O'Neill of Bernardsville, NJ and Leslie McCarthy of Duxbury. Barbara was the secretary to the zoning board of appeals for 19 years. During her retirement, Barbara enjoyed reading, gardening and volunteering at the Thrift shop in Duxbury.

Barbara leaves behind her beloved husband Philip of 64 years, her daughter Leslie and son-in-law Joe, daughter Tracilee and son-in-law, Stephen and 6 grandchildren, Joe Jr., Meghan, Tess and Dan McCarthy and Kelly and Connor O'Neill.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street (Rte. 139) in Marshfield. Funeral procession from the funeral home on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. for a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont Street, Duxbury. Interment will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Barbara can be made to the Duxbury Thrift Shop, 48 Depot Street, P.O. Box 2018, Duxbury MA 02332. Donations will fund a scholarship in her name.
