Barry Edward Scammell peacefully passed away on January 13, 2019 at the age of 77. Beloved husband of Janice A. (Pritchard) Scammell for over 52 years. Loving father of Mark and his wife Nicole, Kevin and his wife Heather, and Douglas and his wife Lindsey. Proud grandfather of Andrew, Madeline, Hannah, Ryan, and Cole. Older brother to Greg Scammell and his wife Kim.

Barry grew up in Lafayette, NY. A born leader, he completed his Eagle Scout and was also a first alternate to West Point. Barry was an avid baseball fan and former pitcher. He attended University of Maryland on a full academic scholarship and continued to play baseball. He was offered a major league contract which he turned down in order to complete his engineering degree.

After college, Barry had a career with Kemper Insurance for over 30 years, retiring as the New York City Division President. Barry and Janice then moved back to Duxbury, Massachusetts to rejoin a large family of friends. He enjoyed traveling, playing golf and spending time with his friends and family. He was an active member of the Duxbury Men's Club, Plymouth Old Colony Club, and the Marshfield Country Club.

Visiting hours on Friday, January 18, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon will conclude with a Funeral Service at Noon at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. Burial will be in the Mayflower Cemetery, Duxbury.
