Beatrice (Chadwell) Drucker, 83, of Marshfield, MA, formerly of Plymouth, Port Jefferson, NY, and Vero Beach, FL, died on December 4 following a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Flora (Madden) and Ernest Chadwell, and the widow of Robert N. Drucker, with whom she shared 50 loving years of marriage.
Born in Waco, Kentucky, Bea was raised in Hamilton, Ohio, moving to Port Jefferson, NY, after meeting her husband at work and marrying him. She lived in Port Jefferson for 45 years, spending winters for at least 20 years in Vero Beach, FL. In 2003, she and Bob moved to Plymouth, MA, to be closer to three of their children. Two years ago, she moved to Proprietor's Green Senior Living Community in Marshfield.
Bea devoted most of her life to her family and home, raising four children and maintaining a beautiful home and yard. She also received her Associates Degree in Applied Science at Suffolk County Community College on Long Island, NY. She was a talented gardener, winning awards for her arrangements at the Port Jefferson Garden Club. She was also an excellent cook, an accomplished bridge player, an avid NY Yankees fan, and in her later years took up golf – once hitting a hole in one. She volunteered at the polls during local elections, at the Red Cross blood banks and later at Plimouth Plantation.
Bea was also a loyal friend and well loved by many. She loved to entertain her ever expanding circle of friends, and her home in Port Jefferson was often filled with friends, food, fun and laughter. Living a mile from the water, summers brought their group of close friends together for late afternoon gatherings at the beach, during which she and Bob would always test the waters. At the end of these afternoons, it was always "5 o'clock somewhere."
After Bob retired, he and Bea travelled extensively throughout Europe, to Russia, China, and Australia, making friends along the way that they kept in touch with for years - Bea was known for her lengthy Christmas card list, and each card included a handwritten note and signature. They also enjoyed the sun, golf and a large circle of dear friends in Vero Beach, FL.
After Bob's death in 2003, Bea was embraced by a wonderful, caring group of friends in Pine Hills, Plymouth who became her extended family. They celebrated many occasions together, including her annual Kentucky Derby parties. Bea continued to travel, venturing to Scandinavia, South Africa and Egypt and often went to California to visit her son and daughter-in-law.
But mostly, Bea's life was devoted to family. Survivors include her four beloved children, David and his wife, Roberta Norin, of Medford, MA; Nancy Harding and her husband, Michael, of Rochester, MA; Lisa Rhodes and her husband, Steven, of Marshfield, MA; and Mark and his wife, Denise, of Poway, CA; four grandsons, on whom she doted, Ryan and Justin Harding of Rochester, MA, and Corey and Robbie Rhodes of Marshfield, MA; a sister, Connie Carmack of Englewood, FL; and several nephews and cousins.
She was the sister of the late Ray Chadwell of Columbus, Ohio.
According to her wishes, Bea will be cremated and buried beside her late husband in the Bourne National Cemetery. She will be buried at 9:30 am Friday, Dec 11 followed by visiting hours 11:30 am-12:30 pm and a memorial service at 12:30 pm at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St., Marshfield.
