Obituary

Eight Bells: Bernard J. Kiley, age 90, passed peacefully in his Marshfield home surrounded by his loving family, on January 11, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Patricia C. (Claffey) Kiley and loving father of Bernard "Jay" Kiley, Jr., and his wife Laureen P. of Trumbull, CT, Francis J. Kiley of Marshfield, and Colin J. Kiley and his wife Laura D. of Safety Harbor, FL, and cherished grandfather of Sean P. Kiley, Kerry Lynne Kiley (Brian R. Dempsey), Conor D., Mei Mei, Yui Yui, and Seamus D. Kiley. Son of the late M. Marcus and Jane (Ruddy) Kiley, he was dear brother of the late Mark Kiley and Robert P. Kiley, and leaves a sister in-law, Patricia Kiley, and many nieces and nephews.

After graduating from Yale University with two degrees in Civil Engineering, Bernie kept extremely busy in his 90 years. As a Husband, Father and Grandfather, he loved to spend quality time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Veteran, Past Commodore of the Scituate Harbor Yacht Club, Former Town of Scituate Advisory Board member, Multiple Committee Member at Spyglass Landing, Marshfield, he loved to volunteer for the improvement and benefit of others.

A Professional Engineer for decades, he was a Principal Engineer designing bridges, buildings and Nuclear Power Plants for The Shaw Group, Stone and Webster Engineering and Anderson-Nichols, until his retirement at the age of 79. His work could be found far and wide and he also was involved with safely landing the first man on the moon. He lectured in Engineering at Northeastern University for over 30 years. An avid sailor, he and his wife Pat could be found sailing all over Mass Bay. They loved to travel, cruise, smile and laugh together. Bernie was a quiet man who earned the love and respect of all he met.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 28 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Christine Catholic Church, 1295 Main Street in Marshfield.
