Beverly Kerns Rinehart of Marshfield died in her home on September 20, 2017 where she had been tenderly cared for by her husband of almost fifty years, Daryl J. Rinehart. She was 78 years old. Her children Karen Geng (Michael), Cynthia Comiso (Glen) and Brian Rinehart as well as her grandchildren Andrew, Jessica, Sophia, Tiffany and Peter are grateful for the years they shared with her and will miss her many cards, cheesecakes and care packages. Not to mention her hugs and worry-wart phone calls.
Beverly was the daughter of Benjamin and Prudence Kerns of Piqua, Ohio. She is survived by her younger brothers W. Douglas Kerns (Karen) and John Kerns (Carol); her father-in-law Kenneth Rinehart; her brothers-in-law Dean Rinehart (Beth), Greg Rinehart (Sue), and Keith Rinehart; and her sister-in-law Carol Rinehart Smith (David) as well as many nieces and nephews. The support of each one of these relatives has been so appreciated.
A resident of Ohio until Daryl's work brought the young family to Massachusetts in 1969, Beverly graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in early education (1968). She taught one class of midwestern grade schoolers before moving to the South Shore to grow and nurture her own family with Daryl.
Her children were her life.
For many years, Beverly was involved in Marshfield's tennis community and sang in the North Community Church choir. Until her surgery in April 2017, she was active in the Seaside Gardeners of Marshfield, a book club, and two dinner groups. Her flower arrangements have adorned her own home as well as the Ventress Memorial Library; her books are stacked high on the coffee table while her many cookbooks take the place of honor on the bookshelves; her cabinets are filled with myriad spices and delectable condiments. Her "fellow foodies" have shared meals together for some forty years. Their faithful and loving care of Beverly and Daryl in these last few months has been remarkable, though not at all surprising---"that's what friends are for."
While her favorite place to be was on her back deck overlooking the marsh and river, Beverly loved to travel the world with Daryl. Together they rode the Orient Express; walked on glaciers; boated down the Seine, the Rhine, and the Grand Canal; toured palaces; bartered for rugs in Turkey and necklaces in Mykonos; and dined at restaurants both quaint and elegant. More recently she treasured travels stateside and abroad with her brothers and their wives.
The Buckeyes, Celtics and Patriots have lost a diehard fan, and the rest of us have lost a friend, grandmother, sister, Mother, and wife whose gentleness, selfless service, and unconditional love will be greatly missed.
