Boyd E. Tolman of Marshfield, age 69, passed away on March 31, 2017, surrounded by his family.
He is survived and will forever be remembered by his devoted wife of 47 years, Mary (Beirne) Tolman, his children, Laura and her husband William Nash of Marshfield, and Kenneth Tolman and his wife Alyssa of Portland, Maine, three grandchildren, Hannah, Jacob, and James, as well as a fourth grandchild due in June. Boyd is also survived by his sister, Leah Fitzgerald of Dover, New Hampshire, and his beloved nieces and nephews. Boyd is predeceased by his brother, Edward.
Boyd was born in Rockland, Maine to parents Eugene and Matilda (Haskell) Tolman. Drafted in to the Vietnam Conflict, he chose to join the Marines with whom he served honorably for seven years, achieving the rank of Sergeant and decorated with the Purple Heart as well as other distinctions. His last years in the service were spent at the Panama Canal captaining a pleasure boat for ranking military.
Boyd built his home in Marshfield where he raised his family and lived his entire adult life. With an eye for detail, he enjoyed carpentry, hunting, and target shooting. His joy was piloting his airplane and building and flying model aircraft for many years. He was a diesel mechanic by trade.
Boyd had a sharp wit and wicked sense of humor with a laugh that was contagious. Stoic to a fault, he would never voice personal complaints while always providing generously to the ones he loved. He extended his incredible gentleness to the pets of the household. His presence will forever be missed.
