Bruce Charles Southerton, age 75, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2021 in his home surrounded by his adoring family. "Red" to so many who knew and loved him, leaves behind his beloved wife of 49 years, Mary Beth (Rice), his 3 children and their spouses whom he was immensely proud of: Jim Southerton (Heather), Katie Atkin (Russ) and Julia Rizzo (Mike) and 6 amazing grandchildren whom he loved more than anything (Jameson, Liam, Nora, Wesley, William and Cora).

Born in New Jersey, Red served in the Marine Corps before making his way to Massachusetts and graduating from UMass Amherst. He met the love of his life on Cape Cod in the summer of '70. Red and Mary Beth raised their family in Marshfield. Everything Red did in life was for his family. Spending time with them provided him with his greatest joys; from road trips across the country in his red van, learning to ski at 40 so he could keep up with his kids to walking the beaches of Sanibel/Captiva.

With the support of his extended family, dear friends, cherished caregivers and the 110 Fitness community, Red fought back with grit & grace against Multiple Systems Atrophy (MSA) for many years. He continued to make memories with his loved ones and will be remembered for his devotion & perseverance, his gentle spirit and his appreciation for music, well designed kitchens and colorful sunsets.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2021 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 27, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the Holy Family Parish Church, 601Tremont Street in Duxbury.
