Obituary

Carol Anne (Erwin) Dahlquist passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by family, on January 27, 2024 after battling Alzheimer's for 9 years. Carol was born to Kathleen and Walter Erwin on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1936.  She was 87 years old. A native of Braintree, Massachusetts, she is predeceased by her dear husband of 48 years, Richard Cail Dahlquist in 2008, her brother Walter Erwin Jr and his wife Jane Barry Erwin, as well as brother-in-law, Willmore Holbrow. Carol, also fondly known as 'Mimi' will be missed dearly by her four children: Rick and wife Kate Dahlquist of Plymouth, Diane and husband David Farina of Duxbury and Palm City, FL, David and wife Dianna Dahlquist of Marshfield, and Susan Dahlquist Chapski of Medfield. Her memories and legacies will be carried forward by her thirteen grandchildren: Jaci, Allison, David, Andrew, Katelyn and husband Gregory, Melissa, Ricky, Dan and wife Annie, Sean, Michael, Lexi, Abby, and DJ. Carol is also survived by her sister Mary Holbrow in California, her brother Paul (Maria) Erwin in Connecticut, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Carol always lit up the room with her radiant smile and charming and comedic disposition.  One of the most prominent legacies of Mimi's life was her love story with her husband of 48 years. Carol and 'Dick' were inseparable. Their relationship flourished limitlessly, and that love sparked and nurtured the lives of their children and grandchildren. The pair met at about age 5 in Ocean Bluff, continued long distance through their school years, and then together for 20 years in Norwell, a decade in Stuart, Florida and then back in Marshfield where it all began!  She enjoyed many great memories at Walt Disney World spanning 40 years and several generations.

Carol loved her time at the beach in Ocean Bluff with her family.  For decades, Carol could be found down at the beach enjoying time tanning in the sand while engaging in many conversations by the ocean or at the beach house. In the winter months, she spent many years living in Florida with Dick, playing tennis and golf, and entertaining visitors. She was very connected to those she cared for, and always reached out to check in with everyone she loved. A classy woman, Carol was very invested in adding color, shine, and sparkle to her style, and ensured that this sparkle gravitated outwards to touch the people around her. One could always spot her from across the room with a beautiful brooch, her hair styled in curls, and larger-than-life jewelry. She cherished her friends and the time they spent playing tennis and bridge.

The legacies that Carol left on her family and friends will be carried forth for the rest of their lives, and into future generations of her great grandchildren. Carol, 'Mimi', will be dearly missed, but we can rejoice in her freedom from her long-term battle against Alzheimer's and her reunion with Dick.  She spent nearly 7 years at Sunrise Senior Living Facility in Cohasset, and enjoyed many laughs with the staff - her family truly appreciates all their efforts to make Carol feel at home.
