Carol Higgins (Sweeney) of Hanover, formerly of Braintree and North Quincy, passed away peacefully in her home on January 6, 2025 after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 82. Born and raised in North Quincy, Carol graduated from North Quincy High School and then worked at John Hancock as a secretary. In later years, after raising her own children, Carol became a paraprofessional for the Braintree Public School System for over ten years, where she touched the lives of many children. In her free time Carol enjoyed spending time with her family, golfing, gardening, dancing with her grandchildren and spreading "Joy to the World'.
A devoted wife, mother, sister, nana and friend, Carol will be sorely missed by all who were blessed to have known her. Carol was the beloved wife of James Higgins for over 57 years. Loving mother of Cheryl Larson and her husband Larry of Marshfield, Denise Creedon and her husband James of Marshfield and Cindy Higgins of Marshfield. Devoted sister of Russ Sweeney and his wife Jean of Weymouth, Joan Myatt and her husband Jack of Hingham and Jay Sweeney and Janet Depesa of Plymouth. Dear sister-in-law of Thomas Higgins and his wife Jackie as well as the late Fr. John J. Higgins S.J. and the late Eileen Fitzgerald and her husband Jack. Cherished nana to Meaghan, Emily, Sarah, Mary Kate, James, Caroline, Anna, Matthew, Paige and Will. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, January 12th, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 13 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Christine Parish Church, 1295 Main Street (Rte. 3A) in Marshfield followed by burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
