The family of Carol Topham (neé Jones) of Middleborough, MA (formerly of Marshfield) is saddened to announce her passing on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at the age of 91.
She was born in Springfield, MA on July 11, 1930 and lived most of her childhood in Suffield, CT. After moving to Massachusetts, Carol graduated from Needham High School in 1948. Carol attended Bridgewater State Teachers College and was awarded her teaching degree in 1952. Carol moved to Marshfield in 1963 with her young family and lived in Marshfield until 2004. She was a second grade teacher at the South River School in Marshfield from 1968-1993.
Along with raising her family and teaching school, Carol loved to sew and became a quilt maker. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing her knowledge of plants. Her fondest memories took place during the many summers at her house in Marshfield with its fruit trees, flower gardens, and swimming pool in the company of her family and her many cherished dogs.
Carol will be lovingly remembered and missed by her son Donald and wife Juliana Szacaks of Amherst, NH; her daughter Sandra and husband Ronald Hasseltine of Braintree, MA; daughter-in-law Andrea Thorpe of Newport, NH; her four grandchildren James Topham and wife Yuko, Caitlin Topham and husband James Kennerly, Anna Hasseltine and Elizabeth Hasseltine; three great-grandchildren Rex and Luca Topham and Henrik Kennerly; sister Natalie J. Mahoney; and her much loved nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Sidney K. and Anna E. Jones, step-mother Dorothy S., siblings Clark and Richard Jones, and sons Lee and Richard Topham.
A private family service will take place in the spring.
