Carole Elizabeth Hayes (Studley), surrounded by her family, passed away on Wednesday, February 5 after a long illness.
Carole was born in Tamworth, Staffordshire England on July 28, 1943 to Robert P. Studley, who was an American soldier from Hanover, MA, and Ellen Wilkinson Studley, a British subject, who met and married while Robert was stationed in England during World War II.
After the war's end, in 1948, Carole and her mother were finally able to join her father in Hanover, MA, via passage on the USS Washington and gaining admission through Ellis Island. She proudly retained her dual citizenship.
Carole graduated from Hanover High School in 1961. She commuted to finish high school after her family moved to Marshfield in 1960. She married Donald Henry Hayes of Marshfield in 1963. They remained happily married for 56 years.
An avid reader, Carole was never without a book. She also volunteered at the Daniel Webster Elementary School library for several years. Carole loved working in her garden. Throughout the years, she enjoyed camping, and sailing, and always wanted to be near the ocean.
Carole's greatest love, however, was her family.
She leaves her husband, Donald, her two children, Christopher Hayes of Marshfield, MA and Robin Hayes Sauvé of Longmeadow, MA, her brother Howard "Butch" Studley and wife Anne of Marshfield, her sister-in-law Joan Randall of Plympton, and numerous nieces and nephews both in the U.S., and England.
Anyone who knew Carole would agree that she was one of the kindest, most caring souls they ever met, and she touched more lives than she could have imagined.
The world was a better place for having her in it, and she will be missed beyond measure.
Due to the current restrictions on social gatherings, a celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations can be made to the Salvation Army or the American Cancer Society.
