Catherine M. Foster died May 9, 2015 in Smithtown, New York at the age of 90. She was the daughter of the late Daniel G. and Catherine M. Millar.
Cathie was born in Cambridge, grew up in West Newton, and moved to Duxbury in 1948 when she married the late Donald S. Foster. She attended Bryant & Stratton Business School and worked for the War Labor Board and Franklin Clark Press in Boston. After she married and gave birth to her two children, Cathie became a full time mother. Following the death of her husband in 1963, she joined the Duxbury School Department where she worked until her retirement as Principal's Secretary in 1990.
Since 1966, Cathie has been a very active member of the Order of the Eastern Star and belonged to chapters in Duxbury, Plymouth and Marshfield. She served as Worthy Matron three times, Deputy Grand Marshall in 1993, and was appointed Grand Representative to Rhode Island by the Worthy Grand Matron of MA in 2003. Cathie also served as an Advisory Board member of Plymouth Assembly No. 86, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, for 20 years, and was elected an Honorary Lifelong Member of that organization.
After her retirement, Cathie was active in the Duxbury Senior Citizens Club and served as its Membership Chairperson for ten years, successfully working to increase membership in the organization. She also volunteered at Duxbury House Alzheimer's Care Center and the Duxbury Thrift Shop for a number of years. In 2007, she was nominated as Volunteer of the Year in Duxbury.
Traveling was a passion for Cathie, and she was able to travel to a number of U.S. states, often with her daughter, as well as enjoy a number of cruises. She was fortunate to travel to Europe multiple times, and especially loved Scotland, the country of her heritage.
Although Cathie moved to Marshfield in 1975 and lived there for 31 years, she considered Duxbury her home and returned in 2006. When it came time, she moved to New York in 2011 to be closer to her daughter. She enjoyed traveling, cats, gardening, restaurants and word puzzles.
She was the mother of the late Robert B. Foster, and leaves her daughter, Janet Anderson, and son-in-law Gary of Smithtown, New York.
