Maher, Catherine (Devine), of Marshfield, passed away on August 16, 2016 at the age of 74. Cathy was the daughter of James F and Thelma Devine of Belmont MA (both deceased). Beloved wife of James A. Maher. Dear mother of Steven (Jennifer) Maher of Marston's Mills, Elizabeth (Charles) Kimball III of Rockland, and Ruth (Christopher) Masood of Marshfield. Cathy leaves her grandchildren Matthew, Stephanie, Hannah, Brendan, Michael, and Gracie as well as her brothers Lawrence Devine and his wife Joan, and James Devine and his wife Patricia, and sister Mary Jane Kennedy and sister-in-law Jeannie Devine; as well as several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by a brother, Thomas Devine.

Cathy earned her BS in Nursing from Boston College. She retired after 20 wonderful years as the Director of Nursing from Newfield House in Plymouth, MA. After retiring she volunteered at nursing home and maintained her friendships with her fellow coworkers and friends.

Cathy's interest in birds took her too many faraway places such as Alaska, Hawaii, and Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama, Africa, Trinidad & Tobago and many states in the US. It was through her love of birds that she became involved with the Mass Audubon South Shore Sanctuary. This led to becoming involved in many events at the Daniel Webster Wildlife Sanctuary where she also volunteered at the Daniel Webster Estate & Heritage Center. She served on the Board where she was the Secretary for the Estate. The friends she made at each place made the volunteering such a pleasure for her.

Cathy was also a long time member of the Duxbury Cruising Club (DCC). Through the DCC Cathy and her husband Jim adored many friendships which brought them great pleasure and many sailing adventures, cruising with her family and friends. An adventure she especially enjoyed was being a member of a crew sailing from Bermuda to Marion.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2016 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home 1755 Ocean St., Marshfield. On Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. a Funeral Mass will be held at St Ann's by the Sea, 591 Ocean Street in Marshfield.
