Charles "Charlie" A. Enwright of Stoneham, Massachusetts, formerly of Yarmouth Port, West Dennis and Arlington passed away on January 22, 2021 at the age of 99. He was the beloved husband of Margaret "Peggy" M. (Lanagan) Enwright, loving father of Charles E. Enwright and his wife Lisa of Marshfield, Carol Connor and her husband Jay of Amherst, NH, Richard and his wife Chris of Quincy and Christine Wilson and her husband Dave of Wakefield. Charlie was the cherished grandfather of Christian, Paige, Whitney, Jill, Nicole, Justin, Christopher and Kevin and great-grandchildren Liam, Brendan, Molly, Andrew, Colby, Audrey, Ellis, AJ, Stella, Scarlett, Declan, Chloe and Kenzie. Charlie was predeceased by his siblings Margaret, John, Raymond, and Thomas and has one surviving sister, Eleanor Granfield.
Charlie was born on June 12, 1921, in Boston to Thomas and Mary Enwright. He was a graduate of Charlestown High School. During his childhood, Charlie could be found at the Charlestown Boys and Girls Club. He always said that it was a very positive influence in his life, and that is where his passion for sports began. Charlie served in World War II with the Army Tank Corps. After the war, Charlie returned to Charlestown and met the Angel of the Emerald Isle, Peggy, whom he married in 1948. They settled in Arlington and raised their family there. Charlie worked for the MBTA and when he retired as the Chief Power Dispatcher, he and Peggy retired to their second home in West Dennis. Charlie was a member of the Dennis Pines and Highland Golf Courses, serving as Treasurer for the Men's Golf League of Dennis. Golfing became his passion and his second full-time job. A good game of cards with his buddies after golf was also something he thoroughly enjoyed. Charlie loved nothing more than playing golf with his sons and grandsons, particularly at the Marshfield Country Club. Every week Charlie and a group of friends traveled to Hyannis and volunteered for the Telephone Pioneers repairing talking books for the Perkins Institute of the Blind. Charlie enjoyed a long and fulfilling retirement.
Over the years, Charlie loved spending time with his family and travelling with Peggy. They had many memorable trips and experiences. He was an avid Boston sports fan who thoroughly enjoyed watching all four local teams win championships. Whether it was among co-workers at the MBTA, friends, family, golfing buddies – and most recently his fellow residents at The Arbors – Charlie was known as the story teller. "Did I ever tell you about . . . ." He took great pleasure in telling stories about growing up in Charlestown, playing basketball for the Boy's Club, serving in WW II and his family. Charlie and Peggy were a true love story and inseparable for 73 years! His beautiful Peggy was the love of his life.
Due to current COVID restrictions, services will be held at a later date at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Buzzards Bay. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Boys and Girls Club of Boston by mail to 200 High Street 3 rd Floor Boston, MA 02110 or online at https://www.bgcb.org/
