After attending school in Brockton, Charles was briefly enlisted in the U.S. Air Force until medically discharged. He went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering and a master's in mathematics from Boston University. His full-time career then began with teaching mathematics and computer science at Duxbury High School. During his 30 years at DHS, he was a Driver's Ed instructor, Senior Class Advisor, and professional photographer for varsity sports. In the early 1980's, he introduced computers to the Duxbury School system. He was very fond of his students and was known for his great rapport with them.
Upon retiring from Duxbury High School, Charles worked for his son's company Lagerstedt Services, managing the engineering and inspections for the Stop & Shop Supermarket account throughout New England. For over 50 years, he was a licensed A&P mechanic and licensed FAA airplane inspector, as well as an airplane pilot. In addition, he played the piano in nursing homes for the elderly as well as local restaurants.
Charles was known for his quick wit and many jokes. He was a jack-of-all-trades. He summered as a child at the Lagerstedt family cottages at Duxbury Beach and eventually built his own family home there with his wife, Mary where they raised their three children. He liked to spend his leisurely time on the clamming flats and walking his dogs on the beach. He will forever be in our memories.
