Obituary

With great sadness we announce that Charles (Charlie) W McAlpine of West Barnet, Vermont passed to his eternal rest on December 3rd, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Charlie was 78 years old.

Charlie was born in Chelsea, MA to William McAlpine, an Irish immigrant, and Effie (Knowles) of Melrose, MA. He is survived by his two sisters, Lois Yingling of Florida and Irene MacDonald of Alabama.

Charlie met Marilyn Muir, of Quincy after high school and got married. They bought a house and moved to Brockton after starting their family. In 1984, they moved their family to Hingham where they created a warm and welcoming home for us all including our friends.  Charlie is further survived by Marilyn of Marshfield and their seven children:  Jeffrey and his wife Maureen of Abington; Thomas and his wife Lisa of Marshfield; Daniel and his wife Katie of Marshfield; Megan of Marshfield; Nicholas and his wife Charlotte of Hingham; Kyle Anne and her husband Eric Hilstrom of Marshfield; and Samantha of Colchester, VT.

Charlie was the luckiest Papa in the world to be loved and adored by his 16 grandchildren:  Maggie, Robbie, Grace, Will, Luke, Matt, Jackie, John, Cece, Lily, Eliza, Maddie, Emily, James, Quinn and Paige.

Charlie graduated from Quincy High School, Class of 1962.  After graduation, he went on to work for Spencer Press, following in his father's footsteps.  Charlie, a natural salesman, had a long and successful career selling and consulting on everything printing.

In 2012, Charlie relocated to their summer lake house in the beautiful Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. In addition to being a family man, Charlie had an unwavering faith in God. The Presbyterian Church of Barnet was where he worshipped every Sunday. He was also very proud of his longstanding sobriety, and he helped many others in this pursuit. He led prayer services, delivered 'Meals on Wheels', was an active member of the Grange, and enjoyed playing cribbage with his friends. Charlie had a generous spirit and unparalleled sense of humor; he loved to tell and hear a good joke. Charlie's spirit will live on in the memories shared by those who were lucky enough to know him.

A wake will be held at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St., Marshfield, MA on Wednesday, December 7th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at Sanctuary Church, 185 Plain St., Marshfield, MA on Thursday, December 8th at 10:00 a.m.
