Obituary

Charles now rests peacefully in the arms of The Lord. Charles passed away on January 9 at the age of 86 after bravely recovering from a stroke and dealing with metastatic prostate cancer.

Charles was born to Doris and Edward Sylvester in May 11, 1938. He began life in Quincy where he spent many years and often spoke of the adventures he had with his brother Frankie and friends around the quarries. He entered the US Navy at 17 and served on the aircraft carrier USS Randolph traveling the seas to Guam and Italy eventually to land back on the shores of "The Beach" of Hull.

Charles re-found the Lord sometime in the 80s and that faith and grace brought him many lessons and comfort, right up to his last days. In terms of the various jobs he held, including the Quincy shipyard and the Hull Light company, his most treasured work was done volunteering at the Brockton VA Hospital helping those that were alone and unable to help themselves. If his love for golf was not mentioned this would be an oversight. His time with his brother Peter and friends on, in, around or watching golf left him with happy memories.

Charlie was predeceased by his parents Doris and Edward Sylvester, sister Edwina (Sylvester) Purssell, and brother Peter Sylvester (Cocoa Beach, Fla). Survived by his brother Frank Sylvester and his wife Carole Donohue (Brockton, MA), sister in-law Anne Sylvester (Cocoa Beach, Fla), stepson Tom Callahan and his Wife Lori (Brewster, MA), stepson Michael Callahan (Boston, MA), daughter Carrie Sylvester (Kingston, MA), granddaughter Colby Ross (Brighton, MA) and grandson Devan Ross (Kingston). And the three girls who never left his heart Tracy, Jamie, and Wendy.

There will be a celebration of life service held on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Marshfield, and a fellowship time, immediately following across the street at the FCCM Parish Hall. Interment will be held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery at a later date.

The family is grateful for the thoughts and prayers from FCCM's Caring Ministry, family and friends near and far and thankful for the support and guidance received from Marshfield Veteran's Services, nurses, case managers, counselors, and aids from Old Colony Elder Services, Norwell VNA Hospice and CareOne Nursing Home Weymouth.
