Charline Wright Hare, of Marshfield, MA, passed away peacefully on the evening of April 13, 2016, one month following the death of her husband of 66 years, Roger James Hare. She is survived by her son James Hare and wife Katherine Hare, of Arnold, MD; son Jeffrey Hare and wife Mary Deegan Hare, of Island Pond, VT; daughter Jayne Hare Dane and husband Robert Dane, of Heath, MA; and daughter Joyce MacCarthy and husband Richard MacCarthy, of Marshfield. Charline is also survived by five grandchildren, and twin great-grandsons.
Charline was born on September 5, 1928, in Middletown, CT, the daughter of Percy and Mildred Walden Wright. Charline attended Pratt High School in Essex, CT, where her best friend, Barbara Hare introduced her to her brother, Roger Hare. They became sweethearts, graduated Pratt High School together, and eventually married on June 24, 1949, two years after Roger returned from active duty in World War II.
Charline devoted her life to loving care of her husband and four children. Her first son, James, was born a little over a year after marriage. The family soon moved to Fort Bliss, TX, where Roger was stationed in the National Guard. Jeffrey was born almost four years later, after which the family moved to Peekskill, NY. Charline's two daughters, first Jayne and then Joyce, were both born in Peekskill as well. In 1960 the family moved to Marshield, MA, where Charline and Roger lived for the rest of their lives, with a brief residence in Old Saybrook, CT for a year.
Charline was to oversee the building of three homes over the years. She turned them all into home sweet home. Her beauty was so much more than skin deep. Her green thumb and crafting and her skills in the kitchen made our homes places of comfort and nourishment. Most of all she nourished our souls with deep family love and opportunity, opportunity to grow, appreciate, and take advantage of all that Marshfield and the world had to offer. Her grandchildren and great grand children share the spirit of life and love that she generated and shared so selflessly.
Now she has joined her husband Roger, he having preceded her so recently. A memorial service will be held to honor their lives and passing on April 23, at 1:00, at the Trinity Episcopal Church, on Highland Street, in Marshfield Hills. A burial service, with military honors, will follow at the Couch Cemetery. A reception will begin at the VFW Post 8345 lodge on Route 3A immediately following the memorial service. The service, burial, and reception are open to all who wish to honor the life, service, and passing of Charline and Roger Hare. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marshfield's Veterans Memorial Park.
