Obituary

Claire M. (Sutcliffe) Callahan, of Kingston, MA, formerly of Pembroke and Abington, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2015 at the age of 83.

Claire is survived by her beloved children: Kenneth Callahan of NY, Claire Gaffney and her husband Glen of OH, John J., Jr., of ME, James W. and his wife Joanne of NJ, Joan F. and her husband Paul of Carver, Terence M. and his wife Michelle of Marshfield, William J. and his wife Lisa of Kingston, Timothy R. and his wife Catherine of Duxbury, and Suzanne Tamoosh Finley and her husband Rodney of Plymouth. She was a devoted grandmother to 32 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Claire was the beloved daughter of the late William J. and Florence (Walker) Sutcliffe of the Houghs Neck section of Quincy, mother of the late Patricia Labrecque of Abington, and the grandmother of the late Meghan K. Tassinari of Plymouth.

Claire worked at Ritchie Navigation of Pembroke, MA from 1976 to 2012. Claire was the company's assembler of the Ritchie Globemaster Compasses which can be found on several prestigious boats, the most famous being the USS Constitution. Claire and her daughter Joan Winslow were "TV stars" for Ritchie in April of 2006 on a segment of "How it's Made Nautical Compass." The show was a big hit and can be viewed on YouTube.

A former amateur roller dancing champion of MA during the 1970's, Claire was also part of the "Hancock Minstrels" in 1950. Claire also enjoyed electronic gadgets, bird watching, reading, the New England Patriots, watching various Drum and Bugle Corps., and dogs, especially her most recent canine friends Rocky and Smoochie.

Claire was a proud and core member of the North River Community Church in Pembroke.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, June 14, 2015 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street, Rte 139, Marshfield with a funeral mass at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 15 at the North River Community Church, 334 Old Oak Street, Pembroke.
