Claire (Nee) Rooney, of Marshfield and Sarasota, FL, passed away surrounded by family, on September 11, 2017 at the age of 87. Beloved wife of the late John F. Rooney; dear mother of Mary Ellen Casey and her husband Paul of Marshfield, Patricia Angelo of Marshfield, John Rooney and his wife Cathy of Ridgewood NJ, James Rooney and his wife Ruth of Gales Ferry, CT, Richard Rooney and his wife Janice of West Tisbury, Robert Rooney and his wife Darlene of Rockland, and Michael Rooney of Weymouth; sister of Sr. Patricia Nee D.C. of Holbrook and the late Muriel Farina. Claire leaves 9 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was retired from the New England Telephone Company.

Claire graduated from St. John's High School in Cambridge. After raising 7 children, she earned her Associate degree from Northeastern University. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Claire loved going to the beach, dinner and travel with friends, reading, drawing, and gardening. In her retirement, she volunteered at Etrusco and St. Christine's church. Claire was the cherished grandmother of Nicole and John Wadsworth, Joshua Rooney, Ashley and Ethan Rooney, Janaye Rooney, Laura Casey, Liam Rooney, and was predeceased by Ian Dunphy.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, September 18, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street (Rte. 139) Marshfield. Funeral procession from the funeral home on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in St. Christine's Church, 1295 Main Street, Marshfield. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
