Obituary

Clara B. (Murphy) Richardson of Marshfield, formerly of Easthampton, Mass, passed away on December 9, 2016 at the age of 91. She was the daughter of the late James and Rachael (Hayward) Murphy of Watertown and Marshfield, the beloved wife of the late David W. Richardson of Easthampton, MA, and the mother of Claudia Roberts of Henniker, NH, David W. Richardson Jr. and his wife Catherine (Oliveri) of Marshfield, and Virginia Ann Hurteau and her late husband Henry of Easthampton. Clara leaves 7 beloved grandchildren: James Roberts and Virginia Greco; David Richardson III, Jennifer Laber, and Christopher Richardson; Rachel Harris and Henry Hurteau. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren and many equally beloved nieces and nephews. Clara was predeceased by three brothers: James T. Murphy of Tewksbury, Lucius P. Murphy of Watertown, and Richard A. Murphy of Abington. She leaves a brother, Frances Gary Murphy and his wife Mildred of Watertown, and a sister, Virginia (Murphy) Ross of Marshfield.

Clara was a graduate of Watertown High School and the Waltham Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of the Cadet Nurses Corps during WWII and Director of Nurses at Mayflower Nursing Home at the time of her retirement from the nursing profession in 1991.

Clara was a talented artist working chiefly in oils and pastels. She was also an extremely accomplished needlewoman, famous for her beautiful Irish knits. Her love of travel took her to many lands, the most treasured of which were Ireland and England. Within the family she was known to be an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, from Ted Williams to Big Papi, and of the New England Patriots and Tom Brady.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street (Rte. 139) in Marshfield MA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Christine's Church, 1295 Main Street, Marshfield. On Friday, December 16, 2016, visiting hours will be held from 10:00 to 12:00 a.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Park Street, Easthampton, MA, followed by burial in Brookside Cemetery in Easthampton.
