Clare DuWors McAuliffe, passed peacefully at her home in Duxbury, MA on May 23, 2022 surrounded by her family. Clare leaves behind her husband of 48 years, Gerard S. McAuliffe, her son Seth McAuliffe of Duxbury, her daughter Payton and her husband Brian Connolly of Duxbury, her daughter Sayre and her husband Robert Ciriello, Jr. of Hanover. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren; Mackenzie and Caleb Connolly, and Lilah Ciriello, as well as her sister, Mary Dewan of Falmouth. She was daughter of the late Bertram B. and Margaret Ruth (DeLorey) DuWors.
Clare was born and raised in Weymouth, before starting her family in Pembroke, and eventually moving to Duxbury in 1983 where she built her dream home and her dream life. She loved traveling and summering at her home in Nantucket. In later years, she enjoyed traveling to Vermont every weekend to spend down time with her husband in the antique barn that they reconstructed together into a second home. She adored all of her pets that she had over the years. Her beloved dog, "Baby Bear" will miss sitting and walking with his best friend-his "Mama Bear."
Clare worked as a teacher in the Weymouth school system for 9 years. After spending 18 years raising her children, Clare received advanced degrees from Lesley University and Bridgewater State University. She returned to teach as an Elementary Reading Specialist in Norwood for two years and then spent the last 15 years of career at the Helen Hansen Elementary School in Stoughton, MA before retiring in 2013.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday May 26 th from 4-8pm at the MacDonald Funeral Home located at 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield, MA. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Church located at 601 Tremont Street in Duxbury, MA on Friday May 27 th at 10am. Interment will be in the Mayflower Cemetery of Duxbury.
