IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Clement "Sonny"
Charles Medeiros
January 12, 2021
Clement Charles "Sonny" Medeiros, 81, loving husband of Mary (Geaney) Medeiros, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2021, at NewBridge on the Charles in Dedham, Massachusetts. Sonny's family is forever grateful for the kind, compassionate care he received from everyone at NewBridge.
Sonny was born on April 29, 1939, in Boston, Massachusetts. Son of the late Clement A. Medeiros and Mary C. (Gatulis) Medeiros, he resided in Dorchester until his family moved to Hyde Park, MA, where he attended Hyde Park High School. Following his schooling, Sonny served his country in the U.S. Navy.
Sonny had a bright and charming personality, an easy smile, and a quick wit. He was an avid sports fan, loving his New England sports teams wholeheartedly since childhood. He passed many warm (and sometimes downright frigid) afternoons/evenings at Fenway Park, cheering on his beloved Red Sox. When he couldn't be at the park, he was most certainly in front of his TV watching his favorite team.
Perhaps his greatest feat as a parent was coaching all three daughters on the same softball team, especially since they all wanted to be the starting pitcher. He also spent a great deal of time at the rink, coaching his sons' hockey teams.
Nothing pleased Sonny more than hosting family gatherings with Mary, surrounded by their children and grandchildren at their home on Minot Street in Marshfield, MA. He loved the beach, homemade chocolate chip cookies, going to his grandkids' sporting events, and eating steamed clams at The Chatham Squire in Chatham, MA.
An entrepreneur at heart, Sonny ran a successful business, The Copy Stop Press, for many years in Quincy, MA, and retired in 2005 when he moved to Bonita Springs, FL.
One of the great enjoyments of his life was the game of golf. A member of the Marshfield Country Club for many years, and then, later, Spring Run Golf Club in Bonita Springs, FL, Sonny devoted his later years to perfecting his golf game.
In addition to his wife, Mary, Sonny is survived by his five children, Kelly Kinsella of Boston, MA; Jean Kostick and her husband, Robert, of Keene, NH; Lisa McCarthy and her husband, Thomas, of Norwell, MA; James Medeiros and his wife, Jennifer, of Wayland, MA; and Robert Medeiros and his wife, Heather, of West Bridgewater, MA; three stepchildren, Mark Granigan and his wife, Christine, of Woodstock, GA; Donna Beauregard and her wife, Maureen, of Strafford, NH; and Dennis Granigan and his wife, Kate, of Marshfield, MA; 11 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Medeiros and his wife, Ann, of Dedham, MA; and a sister, Donna Long of Hadley, MA. Sonny was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Donna's husband, Stephen Long. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins will also greatly miss him.
Throughout the course of his adult life, Sonny enjoyed many laughs and a few beers with his long-time pals Gene Harnan, Tom Walsh, and Bob Bonner, all of whom, we are certain, have welcomed him over to the other side, where they are most likely singing Irish songs or playing a round of golf at this very moment.
MacDonald Funeral Home in Marshfield, MA, is assisting the family with arrangements. Private services will be held on January 23, 2021 at St. Mary's Church in Hanover. Condolence messages may be entered into the family's memorial guest book on the funeral home website at https://www.macdonaldfuneralhome.com/obituary/clement-sonny-medeiros
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Sonny's honor to the Alzheimer's Association to support their research of frontotemporal dementia.
