Obituary

South Shore Art Community Loses a Valued Talent and Mentor When Clement Micarelli passed away on August 28that 79, a canvas sat at the ready in his studio, prepped for a new portrait commission. It was a testament to a respected artist who remained in demand for his masterful technique and ability to reveal the individuality and spirit of his subjects. Known as ?Mic? to his family and friends, he was a beloved mentor to scores of artists over the years. He taught privately and as a faculty member of the Rhode Island School of Design. His connection with RISD began in 1941 when, at the age of 12, he attended his first figure drawing course. After serving in the Army during the Korean War, Mic went on to study at Pratt Institute in New York City where he lived with his wife and childhood sweetheart Mary Amalfitano. As he and Mary raised their three children, Joe, Domenic and Paula, Mic built a successful career as a fashion illustrator, while never abandoning his work and identity as a painter and fine artist. After moving the family to Massachusetts in 1971, Mic eventually settled in Marshfield where he became a valued member of the vibrant South Shore art community. He was also the center of a loving clan that grew to include five grandchildren ? Ray, Christopher, Tori, Noelle and Julianne ? whom he adored and, naturally, painted often. Some of Mic's portraits, illustrations and landscapes can be seen at www.cmicarelli.com. To honor Mic, donations can be made to the Norwell Visiting Nurse Association (www.nvna.org), which was so supportive during his battle with lung cancer, or the American Cancer Society. A private memorial will be held for family and friends. For more information, please call Joe & Angel Micarelli at 781-749-5716.
