Cynthia Ann (Reidy) Cronin entered into eternal rest peacefully on February 26, 2025, her 91st birthday. Cynthia was born in Boston on February 26, 1934, to the late Elizabeth and John D. Reidy.
Cynthia was raised in Belmont, with her older brother, John David Reidy, Jr. and her younger sister Ursula (Reidy) Turano, both of whom predeceased her. Cynthia was a life-long avid reader and lover of theater, music and the arts. Some of her favorite childhood memories were from summers spent at her family's cabin in Hingham, rooting her fondness of the town, which is where she spent the last four years of her life, and passed, at Harbor House Rehabilitation.
Cynthia graduated from Belmont High School and from Lesley University in 1955 with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education. She taught kindergarten for a few years before marrying the love of her life, John F. Cronin, Jr. Cynthia and John spent their early married years and had their first two children while living in Watertown. In 1960, their love of the ocean and boating inspired them to move to Scituate, where they had three more children, raised all five children, and lived until 2003, following John's death.
Tragedy struck the family in 1967, when Cynthia suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage following the birth of her fifth child. Cynthia strived not to give up and worked diligently in rehab to recover from her stroke as much as possible, making remarkable progress over the years, and ended up living a miraculously long and full life, despite her left side being paralyzed. She is a true testament of strength, courage and tenacity. Cynthia was a fierce lover and supporter of her family, and maintained a deep-rooted faith, which never wavered no matter what obstacles she encountered.
Cynthia is predeceased by her husband, John F. Cronin, Jr. and her three sons, John F. Cronin, III, Daniel Patrick Cronin and Mark Reidy Cronin.
Cynthia is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Ann (Cronin) Sabin ("Lisa") and Deirdre Cronin Kyle, her beloved grandchildren, Crystal Ann Cronin, Gregory J. Sabin, Eilish Ann Cronin, Daniel P. Cronin, Jr., Victoria Cynthia Kyle, John F. Cronin, and Ryan S. Kyle, as well as her great grandchildren, Simon, Harrison, Margaret, Aila, Owen, Scarlett, Giana and Francis. She also leaves behind her sisters-in-law, Audrey Reidy, Marguerite Cronin, and Marge Cronin, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the Harbor House employees who took excellent care of Cynthia, especially the few very special women whom she grew to love very much and kept her laughing right up to the end.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption, 40 Canal Street, Marshfield, at 10:00 A.M. on March 3, 2025, followed by interment in St. Mary's Cemetery in Scituate, where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband and sons.
