Daniel A. McGonagle, Jr., of Fort Pierce, Florida, formerly of Marshfield, passed away on February 13, 2018 at the age of 74. Beloved husband of 37 years to the late Roberta J. (McMillin) McGonagle and dear father of Daniel McGonagle of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Joan Bryant of Plymouth, and David McGonagle of Marshfield. Daniel leaves 6 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, his wife of two years, Mary L.J. (McCarthy) McGonagle, his brothers William McGonagle of Port St. Lucie, Florida and Lawrence McGonagle of Marshfield, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister, Karen McGonagle of Palm Coast, Florida.

Daniel was born in Medford to the late Daniel A. McGonagle, Sr. and Alice F. (Gaffney) McGonagle, and was a graduate of Scituate High School and Northeastern University. During his 36-year career as a Communications Director with New England Telephone, Daniel served as Civil Defense Director for the Town of Marshfield for 20 years, as well as Auxiliary Chief of Police for the Town.  He retired in 1995, then embarked on a second career as a Master Captain. Daniel took great pride and joy from this profession, navigating private luxury vessels through the waters of the Atlantic and Caribbean Islands. In addition to his love of the ocean, he enjoyed traveling and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street (Rte. 139) in Marshfield, MA. The Funeral procession will depart the funeral home on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. for a Funeral Mass to be held at 10:00 a.m. in St. Christine's Church, 1295 Main Street (Rte. 3A) in Marshfield.  Burial will be in the Couch Cemetery, Union Street, Marshfield.
