David W. Dowd of Marshfield, passed away peacefully on April 8 with his family by his side. Beloved husband of Joan (Concree) Dowd. David was born in New Bedford in 1941 to John and Estelle (Fournier) Dowd. David grew up with his two brothers and lifelong best friends John (Mary Beth) and Robert (Gloria) Dowd. He was a devoted father to Patrick (Stephanie) of Huntersville, North Carolina and Peter of Fall River. Forty six years ago he became father to Joan's children, Phillip (Gail) Brennan, Stephen (Penny) Brennan and Tracy (Tony) Pomella. He was devoted to them all. David is also survived by his grandchildren Ryan Dowd, Alexis, Mark and Nick Pomella and Allison Brennan.
David was a Navy veteran and served on the USS Mount McKinley for two years. He graduated from UMass Dartmouth and taught for 30 years at the Betsey B. Winslow School in New Bedford; a teaching career he loved and was meant for. After retiring from teaching he worked on the greens at Marshfield Country Club.
David was a devoted family man, avid Boston sports fan and all-around good guy with a wry sense of humor - he will be sorely missed.
A celebration of life will be planned in the near future.
