David I. Fleming, III., 56, of Marshfield, MA, peacefully passed away on June 23, 2021, after a courageous battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. He was the beloved husband of Kristin (Rooney) Fleming and father of Kylie, 22 and Alyssa, 19, all of Marshfield; son of David I. and Patricia (Frawley) Fleming of Rockland; brother of Patricia Collins and her husband Sean of Rockland, the Honorable Jacqueline Burchill of Cohasset; Daniel Fleming and his wife Jackie of Narragansett, RI and Dennis Fleming and his wife Karin of Lincoln RI. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A resident of Hyde Park growing up, he graduated from Boston College High School in 1983, where he enjoyed playing hockey and baseball. Dave went on to get an Associates Degree from Quincy College. He was everyone's favorite bartender at the local sports pub, Cappy's Tavern. Always having your next drink up before you were half finished with your first, he was blamed for many a hangover over the years. Many loyal customers would come just to see him and he made great friends during the 25 years he tended bar as his second job.
After working for the MBTA for 23 years, Dave retired to follow his passion of becoming a paramedic. He worked hard while juggling his 2 jobs and family, and was able to achieve his goal and get his dream job working for his hometown of Marshfield as a Firefighter-Paramedic. He was the new "old" guy on the job kicking butt in all the physical fitness tests and keeping the young guys on their toes.
Dave's true happiness in life was spending time with his wife, Kris and beautiful girls, Kylie and Alyssa. He was the proudest dad and definitely the most fun. Working night shifts during the week, he was a hands on dad during the day and there was always adventure to be found. There was no sitting around, it was beach, shopping, movies, restaurants and most memorably, surprising mom with another dog.
Dave was at his happiest when he was on the sidelines at the girls' soccer games. The ultimate soccer dad, there was never a game too early, too far away, or in weather too bad for him to be there. Often driving across states through the night after a late night shift to be on the field cheering them on. Traveling the country to watch them play over the years were some of the best family times.
Living life to the fullest, he was the life of the party and the first one to buy the next round. A true Boston sports fan, he would have no voice from yelling after a big game. Always with a good story, he was funny and a bit fresh, and if that Irish temper blew up, it would blow over just as fast. He was a big kid known for his love of Christmas (decorating and yes shopping), Disneyworld, the Marshfield Fair, Bud Light and Chicken Parm. He was the one you called to get it done, whether it was putting together anything, moving or handy work, he could do it all and would be there in a minute. He always found time to work out and staying fit was definitely a passion he maintained his whole life.
Dave was a great husband, dad, brother, friend and son in-law, he loved spending time with his parents, siblings, and Kris' family as well. He was generous and loyal to all his friends and family and will be deeply missed forever.
Rest in sweet peace my love.
Special thanks to our friends and family who have helped us during the past few years. Also to the Marshfield community, the Marshfield Fire Department, our South Shore Select Soccer family and to 110 Fitness where Dave was able to continue his love for hitting the gym.
