David F. O’Malley, a longtime resident of Marshfield, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026. Born July 5, 1952 in Springfield MA, he grew up in Agawam, MA. David lived a life defined by his love for the ocean.

David was predeceased by his beloved parents, Bette (Better) O’Malley of Agawam, MA, and Walter A. O’Malley of Springfield, MA. He is survived by his many cherished cousins, including first cousins, Lisa Crowley of Mount Pleasant, SC, Kathleen Burdick of North Adams, MA, Neil Van Kleeck of New York, NY, Sue Better of Niles, OH, Bill Better of Shaker Heights OH, Linda Moen of Holyoke, MA and Janet Nantais of Barnegat, NJ. David had many close second cousins, including the Grace, Kenslea and Hennessy families. David is also survived by several extended “nieces and nephews”, including Amanda Stokes of Saugus, MA, Ted Burdick of Williamstown MA, Ben Crowley of Tryon, NC and Nick Crowley of Mount Pleasant, SC. David enjoyed experiencing the beginnings of the 5th generation of his extended family, his “grand-nephew”, Wesley Stokes, and “grand-niece”, Esther Burdick, with surely others to follow. David is also survived by a deep circle of long-time friends who will deeply miss his presence.

A true coastal soul, David loved living at Sunrise Beach in Marshfield. David loved growing up at the beach with all his cousins and friends. He embraced everything the water had to offer, spending countless hours in his youth swimming, boating, fishing, and diving. He lived in the 100-year-old beach cottage built by his beloved grandparents Elizabeth M. (Glancy) and Edward F. Better, Jr. David was thrilled to see the 5th generation of his extended family enjoying his grandparents’ legacy.

Beyond his time on the water, David was a familiar and welcoming face throughout the area, having attended Curry College and working for many years as a videographer, bartender, and limousine driver. David played football in high school and was an avid skier in his youth. He was a big fan of the Boston sports scene, especially his beloved Patriots. His outgoing nature and friendly demeanor made him a natural at connecting with people from all walks of life.

David was so thankful and grateful for the wonderful care he received in the last months of his life from the professional medical staff, doctors, and nurses at the South Shore Hospital, Encompass Healthcare, and especially the dedicated caring nursing team at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital.
