Obituary

David W. Robinson of Duxbury died peacefully on September 16 at the age of 95 with family by his side.  He was predeceased by his mother Evelyn Yeaton, his brother Philip Robinson and wives Rita and Linda.

Proudly honoring Dave's legacy are children Janet Robinson of Florida, Jill Robinson of Hingham, and Dr. David W. Robinson Jr. and his wife Ellen of Charleston, South Carolina; step-children Kelly Beckett and her husband Jason of Milton, Kristen Souza and her husband Derek of North Attleboro; grandchildren Luke and Jack Robinson; step-grandchildren James and KJ Beckett, and Kendall, Rylie, and Chase Souza,

Dave grew up on the north shore of Massachusetts.  He graduated from Beverly High School and directly entered the Army where he honorably served until 1947.

He completed further education at New England College in Henniker, NH where he received a degree in Business administration.  He entered the workforce with General Electric in Lynn, MA.  This is where he met his first love, Rita Mary Welch, beloved mother of Janet, Jill and David, whom he married on September 13, 1953.

Dave took great satisfaction in a long career in sales with Liberty Mutual, where he would work until his retirement.  He and his young family moved several times until ultimately settling in Duxbury, MA where he would reside for 56 years up until the time of his death.

Dave's dearest Rita would pass away in 1978 after a brief illness.  He fully embraced the roles of Mr. mom and dedicated dad for many years to follow.

Dave would marry the next great love of his life, Linda Wells, in 1989.  They lived with daughters Kelly and Kristen in Canton, MA for several years.  Dave and Linda enjoyed a 27-year marriage full of many adventures, community activity and fun with family and friends until Linda's death in 2016.

Dave enjoyed a number of sports as a participant, supporter and spectator throughout his lifetime.  He was an avid-ish Bruins, Red Sox and Patriots fan through good times and bad.  He suffered through the lean years and mentioned that often.  Dave served as a coach for Duxbury Youth Hockey, the original "Mighty Dux".  In his spare time he liked to play golf, garden, boat, ski, fish and cook for others.

Dave was an inspired but wholly unrealized piano talent- this despite Linda's vast musical accomplishments. He looked forward to his hunting trips with the boys from Maine.  It was the camaraderie and the great outdoors which brought him back.  The deer as it turns out were quite safe in his presence- he would later admit that he just could not bring himself to pull the trigger.

Dave's life was one of devoted community service and volunteerism.  For more than a decade he was a member of a Barbershop quartet group entertaining armed service Veterans at VA hospitals and senior citizen groups.  He was a longtime member of the Duxbury Kiwanis Club, where he served as president on 2 separate occasions and oversaw countless community activities.  He took particular pride and pleasure in developing and overseeing the Kiwanis sweethearts program which provided boxes of chocolates, flowers and companionship to the Grande Dames of Duxbury.  He was a 20+ year member of the Duxbury Parade committee as an enthusiastic judge and relentless fundraiser.

In 2014 Dave received a prestigious volunteer service award, commissioned by the President of the United States, recognizing his 15,000+ hours of community service. (The equivalent of more than 7 years of full-time work for those running the numbers).

To all who met him, Dave just seemed larger than life.  He was a delightful raconteur and master teller-of-tales with a hearty laugh and joyful nature.  Dave's clever sense of humor, unconditional kindness and positive persona made him approachable and accessible to friend, casual acquaintance or stranger alike. Humor was an intentional and powerful method through which he loved, mentored and ministered to those around him.  His loving spirit and convicted faith were evident in all aspects of his long and purposeful life.

Most remarkable about this amazing man were his steadfast, unwavering love, devotion and willing sacrifices for family and friend.  He was ever-present and loyal to the end, and to know his greatest joy you simply had to see him hold close his young child or grand baby in warm embrace as the world melted away into blissful contentment.

Dave, dad, grandpa, we love you.  Thank you for….everything!
