Deanna Lee Riley passed away peacefully at the Pat Roche Hospice Home on January 7, 2024, after a brief but sudden illness.
Deanna was the youngest of three children and grew up outside of Buffalo, New York. After completing college in Iowa she settled in Burlington, Vermont. While in Vermont, she began working for the New England Telephone Company, starting what would ultimately become a 27-year career with NYNEX and finally Verizon. She retired from corporate America and settled in Marshfield, MA.
Deanna always lived life to the fullest and made the most out of retirement. She enjoyed traveling throughout the country and the world. She made numerous visits to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston as well as local museums and galleries throughout New England.
She loved her Rexhame Beach Neighborhood and would enjoy frequent walks to the beach with her faithful companion Maggie and was a long-time member of the Cricket Lane Book Club. She was highly active in the local community and volunteered as the Secretary for the Korean War Veterans of Marshfield. She worked with the association to help organize and plan events and fundraisers. Deanna was a life-long card enthusiast, and would often play Bridge, Pinochle and Mahjong at the Marshfield Senior Center and with other groups.
The church and her church community were particularly important to Deanna. She was a long-time member of the Unitarian Universalist Church at First Parish in Norwell. She served on many committees and in different leadership positions throughout the church.
She was on the board of directors for the non-denominational retreat and learning center, in Duxbury, known as Cedar Hill. She dedicated a great deal of her time to ensuring that this retreat space, in a unique and natural setting, would remain a sanctuary for learning, growth and enrichment for all.
Deanna is survived by her son Sean and his wife Amy, her grandsons Keegan and Matthew and her daughter Elizabeth. She also leaves behind her church family and so many wonderful friends and neighbors.
