Derek R. Huer, 77, passed away on August 7, 2026.

Born on January 9, 1949, Derek was the son of the late Richard and Barbara Huer.

Derek is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years Susan B. Huer (Rodier). He also leaves behind his three children: Jason R. Huer and his partner Virginia Costa; Dawne C. Hoeg and her husband Rolf Hoeg; and Christopher Huer and his wife Iliesh Christenson. He is the grandfather of seven grandchildren: Taeg Hoeg, Henry Hoeg, Benjamin Huer, Kathryn Huer, Nathaniel Huer, Emily Huer and Lily Huer. Derek had two brothers and a sister. He is survived by his brother Robin Huer and Barry Jean Lynch. He is predeceased by his oldest brother Curtiss Blythe.

Derek grew up in Braintree, MA and graduated from Braintree High School. After high school he became a union ironworker apprentice finishing first in his class. Then he pursued a 32 years career as a Local 7 union ironworker for American Architectural Iron Company Inc.

His family was his pride. There was nothing he cherished more than being with them and watching the great relationships he had fostered. Never putting himself first he was a true patriarch, mentor, supporter and friend.

As an avid outdoorsman, Derek loved to sail, work with his hands, fish, hunt, camp and explore, especially with his family. He taught his family to respect and honor the natural environment. The lessons he instilled will persevere.

Derek will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous heart, and obsessive punctuality - never had to wait for DRH and don’t be late. Those who knew him will also remember his dry sense of humor and one-liners. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. Interment will be private.
