Donald J. Abbott, 82, passed away peacefully in his home in Middleboro, surrounded by his loved ones.  Don was born October 22, 1941, to William and Dorothy (Coleman) Abbott and grew up in Braintree playing baseball and tennis with his best friend Craig Meurch.  He eventually moved to Marshfield where he lived for many years and raised his family.

Don is survived by his beloved wife Jeanette (Cataldo) Abbott of 58 years, predeceased by his son Billy, daughter in law Dana Abbott, daughter Laurie (Abbott) Barkowsky and son in law Bill Barkowsky.  His greatest joy was his six grandchildren Julia and Leslie Abbott, Allison, William and Evan Barkowsky and Ava Gallagher.

Don graduated from Braintree High and received his teaching degree from Northeastern University.  He was head of the History Dept at Marshfield High where he inspired so many of his students with his love of US history and Street Law.  He not only was passionate about them learning but he was a mentor to so many and truly cared for their wellbeing.

Don loved sports, especially his beloved Patriots and Red Sox. He played softball for many years and loved to fish.

Don also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and loyal friends who have enriched his life. The family would like to thank Cranberry Hospice and its staff for their loving care and support. Visiting hours will begin at 1:00 p.m. and will conclude with a funeral service at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield.
