Donald Henry Hayes at age 81 passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at home on September 22, 2024. He was the loving husband of the late Carole Elizabeth (Studley) Hayes. Donald is survived by his son Christopher Donald Hayes of Marshfield and his daughter Robin Carole Hayes Sauve of Longmeadow, Ma. Also by his dear sister Joan Randall of Plympton, his brother-in-law Howard (Butch) Studley and his wife Anne Studley of Marshfield and several nieces and nephews.
Donald was a lifelong resident of Marshfield graduating from MHS in 1961. He was extremely proud of his military service, having enlisted in the U.S. Navy Sea Bees right out of school. He was stationed in several locations including Cuba during the Missile Crisis. After his discharge, he spent his working career as a heavy equipment operator in the IUOE Local4. Donald was an avid sailor aboard the sloop Invitus. A member of the United States Power Squadron, he earned the rank of Navigator and taught a number of boating courses. He also enjoyed camping in his trailer, especially at Bourne Scenic Park where he rode his bike along the Cape Cod Canal.
A Service with the U.S. Navy Honor Guard will be held at Bourne National Cemetery on October 3rd, 2024 at 11:15 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
