Of Marshfield, formerly of Hingham, passed away unexpectedly on the afternoon of June 17, 2021 at the age of 84. He is survived by the love of his life Anna Kerchner (Muller) and his children, daughter Ursula Korotzer and wife Wendy of Plymouth, and daughter Christa Hurley and husband Peter of Marshfield; his eldest son Thomas Kerchner of Florida predeceases him. Son of predeceased Ralf and Ruth Kerchner (B. Ward), he leaves a sister, Patricia Cox and her husband Larry. Don was the loving OPA to 7 grandchildren, Brandy Al-Hassani (husband Iad), Sean Kerchner, Thomas Kerchner Jr., Tyler Kerchner, Travis Kerchner, Jacob Hurley and Nicholas Hurley, and 7 great-grandchildren Laila, Carter, Charlotte, Lea, Zain, Kason and Owen.
Don grew up in Harrisburg PA, a true outdoorsman hunting and fishing throughout his childhood. He was a graduate of Penn State University and Army Veteran proudly serving the country he loved dearly. After working as a plant manager he retired to start his own company selling technical ceramics. Settling down into retirement he loved his garden, bird watching and more projects than anyone could count. He enjoyed driving his new convertible around town, which he did the morning he passed. His favorite thing was spending time with his devoted wife, the many vacations they took together, and regular restaurant visits planned by the day of the week. He was the number one fan at Jacob and Nicholas' local sports games, especially hockey, where he was well known for his smile and cheering. Around town many knew him as proud OPA. Don was a true family man who cared and loved with all his heart.
Burial will be private for family at Don's request in The Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. The family asks for those who would like to make a contribution in Don's memory to kindly consider The Wounded Warrior Project, by mail to P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 or online at https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/
