Donald Patrick Perkins, 78, of Green Harbor, passed away surrounded by family on May 23rd, after a courageous battle with progressive supranuclear palsy and dementia. He leaves behind his beloved wife and best friend of 60 years, Katherine 'Kathy' (Wallace) Perkins and daughter Jennifer Perkins Marzo and her husband Matthew of Worcester.
Donny was born and raised in West Roxbury, to the late Edward Perkins and Angela (Hohmann) Perkins. He was the brother of the late Edward 'Perk' Perkins and his wife Mary Lou of Connecticut, Kenneth Perkins and his wife Penny of Londonderry, New Hampshire and Greg Perkins of Long Beach, California. Don graduated from Brighton High School and began working in the automotive industry with GMC and Chevrolet.
Those who knew Don would describe him as kind, caring and full of jokes. Donny and Kathy built a beautiful life on the beaches of Marshfield with Jenn. Don loved to be outdoors, surrounded by nature. He was an avid skier and traveled to all of the mountains in New England. He loved bike riding, kayaking and birdwatching. The family traveled to Alaska, Canada, the Caribbean and National Parks. They vacationed multiple times every summer at the Wellfleet Audubon Sanctuary. His interests also included fixing cars, both old and new, maintaining his meticulous flower gardens and caring for his family. His beloved cats gave him love and support during his life and illness.
Funeral services will be private.
Donny was a long-time supporter of the Massachusetts Audubon Society, the World Wildlife Foundation, the Trustees and Best Friends Animal Society. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in Don's name to any of these organizations:
