Doris Emileen (Peterson) Brackett, 93, of Norwell, wife of the late LCR Gerald F. Brackett (US Navy) passed away peacefully on October 19, 2023 after a long illness. Doris was born on May 17, 1930, the third youngest of 9 children of the late Olga L (Blue) and Victor H. Peterson of Watertown, MA who were originally from Sweden. She was born in Easton and grew up in Belmont and Watertown. She graduated from Watertown High School and Fisher Business School. She was the sister of the late; Linda Fiocca of Watertown, Henry Peterson of Marshfield, Elsie Peterson of Belmont, Edith Davison of Weymouth, Russell Peterson of Belmont, Stanley Peterson of Belmont, Jean Abbott of Marblehead, and Nancy Haggett of Greenfield.
Doris married Gerald (Jerry) Brackett, in March 1952. As a Navy blimp pilot's wife, she was stationed in many cities across the United States. From 1962-64, they were stationed at the White Falcon Naval Air Station, Keflavik, Iceland, where Jerry was part of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. She was most happy when stationed at Fort Ritchie, MD from 1964-69. After Jerry's retirement from the Navy, they moved to Norwell in 1969 where she resided and raised her greatest joy, her daughter, Cori, for over 55 years.
She enjoyed golfing and oil painting. She was a passionate bridge player and instructor. She was instrumental in forming the Norwell Newcomers Club in 1969.
She is survived by her only child, Cori Jane Brackett of Tucson, AZ and many nieces and nephews.
Her burial will be at the National Cemetery in Bourne, MA beside her husband, Gerald (Jerry) in a private ceremony at a later date.
