Dorothea J. (McHarg) Dowd of Marshfield, formerly of Everett, passed away peacefully at home on May 29, 2020 at the age of 101. Beloved wife of the late Alfred C. Dowd, she leaves two daughters, Diane Silvia of Tewksbury and Patricia Larson (husband Lawrence) of North Port, FL. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren: Lawrence Larson (wife Cheryl) of Marshfield, Eric Larson of Marshfield, Andrew Price of Marshfield, Leanne O'Brien (husband Liam) of Weymouth, John (Jay) Silvia of Tewksbury, Kenneth Silvia of Cumming, GA and Annemarie Silvia of Bellingham; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brothers John E. and Owen S. McHarg, Dorothea also leaves her dear friend Genevieve Paulhus of Fair Lawn, New Jersey.

Dorothea was born in New Rochelle, New York to Owen S. and Louise A. (Vollmer) McHarg and was raised in South Orange, New Jersey. A woman of deep Catholic Faith, she devoted her life to raising her family and in later years to serving others, as a volunteer at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth and the Marshfield Senior Center. Despite being a native New Yorker, Dorothea was a true fan of the Boston Red Sox. She also enjoyed singing and hobbies such as knitting and Tai Chi, but most of all enjoyed spending precious time with her family and friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2020 from 9-10:30 AM at the MacDonald Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM in St. Ann by the Sea Parish Church, 591 Ocean Street in Marshfield. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Dorothea will be laid to rest with her beloved Alfred with a private graveside service in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Plymouth. Please note face masks are required to be worn inside the church. Also, a Celebration of Life Mass will be held later in the summer.
