Obituary

Dorothy "Dottie" May Scipione (Carmichael), 92, of Kingston MA and St Petersburg FL died peacefully at home in Kingston on December 8, 2015 following a long battle with breast cancer. She was surrounded by love.

Dottie was born in Newton MA on July 21, 1923 and was a long time resident of Waltham MA.
She was the daughter of the late Katherine (Ross) and Barnaby Carmichael of Waltham MA. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years James A. Scipione Sr.

Dottie is survived by her children James A. Jr. of Hillsboro NH, Katherine V. Pattison and her husband Jack of Kingston MA, Tracy D. Caissie and her husband Ron of Nottingham NH, Michael A. and his wife Ann of Marlboro MA, John R. and his partner Dana Stringos of Somerville MA, her grandchildren Adam M. Pattison and his wife Amanda of Portsmouth NH, Daniel J. Pattison and his wife Caity of Plymouth MA, Veronique M. Valentine and her husband Sam of Newmarket NH, Justine M. Caissie of Winsted CT, Kathy Lombardo of Jeffersonville IN, Donna Jean Doherty of Rosedale CA, Lee Anne Scipione of Lowell MA, James A. Scipione lll and his wife Bonnie of Lowell MA, Laurie A. Finochiaro of Barnstead NH, Joshua J. Scipione and his wife Crystal of Hillsboro NH, Gregory M. Scipione and his wife Becky of Derry NH, Katie M. Weglarz and her husband John of Manchester NH, Brandon L. Scipione of Manchester NH, 17 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and her loving sister Jean E. Taylor and her husband George of Sudbury MA. Dottie is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Dottie is preceded in death by her Carmichael brothers Roswell, Edward, Quentin, Russell, and her sisters Eleanor Stearns and Shirley Hooper.

Dottie was an avid bowler, teaching her children to bowl as soon as they could walk and continuing to bowl until age 90. She helped her team in the St. Petersburg league to the championship many times. Her family called her "The 10-Pin Queen". Along with bowling, she also enjoyed playing shuffle board and bingo, and riding her 3-wheeled bike around the Lakeshore Park. She was also an accomplished knitter, making numerous things for family and friends. Dottie was part of a group of knitters who donated 100 newborn hats to Childrens Hospital in St Petersburg. She also knitted lap robes for veterans. Dottie shared her love of gardening with many family members and friends. She also loved family vacations spent at Hampton Beach NH.
Dottie was a wonderful mother and homemaker, a loving wife and a caring friend, a strong woman, and a sweet lady with a generous spirit.

According to her wishes, Dottie will be cremated and hers and her late husband Jim's ashes will be interred in the Bourne National Cemetery, 1 Bennington Blvd, Bourne, MA. A burial service will be held there at 11:15 a.m. on Friday, December 18, 2015, followed by a luncheon at the Town & Country Estates clubhouse, 43 Mountain Ash Drive, Kingston MA. The Reverend Dr. Thomas Richard will officiate the service. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dottie and Jim's lives. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Dottie's memory may be made to Hospice of the South Shore, 30 Reservoir Park Drive, Rockland, MA 02370-1055. The family would like to thank Hospice of the South Shore (Jeanine) and North River Home Care (Heather) for the compassionate and loving care provided to our mother.
