Dorothy Ann Thayer, born April 2, 1932, passed away in her home at the age of 92. She leaves behind her four children, Nancy Thayer, Caroline Malone, Peter Thayer, and Jonathan Thayer. She also leaves behind six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by several nephews and nieces.
Dorothy was the third of four children to Ernest and Hilda Holm. She and her family grew up in Wollaston, Massachusetts.
She, her late husband Clifton, and their four children moved to Marshfield around 1966. She and her husband shared a passion for antiques which led them to pour their heart and soul into an old house that they had lived in for the past 50 years or so. They also loved to take long drives on the weekends, quite a few of them unplanned. They would go to get coffee in the morning in Marshfield and end up on Cape Cod by the afternoon.
Dorothy, quite often called Dot or Dotty, made her career in nursing. She left the profession for a time when her children were born, but then returned when she felt the youngest was old enough. She became a nursing supervisor in a nursing home until her early retirement in 1992.
After her retirement, she and her husband spent quite a few summers at the family cottage in Maine. She became a fixture there, sitting on the front porch saying hello to residents and other summer vacationers. She had a bright and vibrant personality which she maintained to the end of her life.
Dorothy will be cremated and laid to rest at the same time as her husband Clifton at a date to be named later.
