Douglass Sloan "Dougie" Ellis, 85, of Plympton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025, after a brief battle with bladder cancer. Born on December 6, 1939, in Arlington, Doug was known for his quiet strength and warm kindness—though he didn't speak often, every word he shared was valued.
Doug spent 60 years dedicated to the meat industry, where his diligence and reliability left an indelible mark. A nurturing soul, he adopted five children, some with special needs, creating a loving and supportive family for all.
Doug's passions included cheering for the Bruins, tending to his garden, and woodworking—a craft he lovingly passed on to his grandson, James. An avid reader, he found joy and comfort in books throughout his life.
He is survived by his partner, Cleo Gajda; brothers Tom and Steven; sister Susan; sons Richard, Adam, Jeremy, and Tom; daughter Colleen; and numerous grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Wallace and Evelyn, siblings David and Nancy, and his beloved daughter Nicole.
A celebration of Doug's life will be held on September 6th at 10:30 AM at Winslow in Marshfield, followed by a gathering at his sister Susan Fitzgerald's house. All are welcome to honor Dougs life and legacy.
