Edward Francis Colomey, 87, of Arlington and Mashpee, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025, with his loved ones by his side. He will be sorely missed by friends and family.
Edward was born on August 9, 1938, in Brighton, Massachusetts. He attended St. Columbkille High School in Brighton and later Boston College, where he graduated in 1960 with a bachelor's in finance. Edward was a member of the United States Marine Corps reserve and enjoyed a successful career as a commercial insurance underwriter. While in college he met the love of his life, Rosemary Colomey (Doyle) when a close friend set them up on a blind date. Shortly thereafter, they were married and continued loving each other for 51 years until Rosemary's passing in 2012. Edward and Rosemary had three sons, Ted, Tom and Christopher, and raised their beautiful family in both New Jersey and Massachusetts. Edward was predeceased by his two siblings, Nicholas Colomey and MaryEllen Carter. He is survived by his three sons, as well as his four grandchildren, Luke, Robin, Nicholas and Alexandra. Also surviving him are his many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Edward was known for his good humor and gentle demeanor. He was both active and generous, walking 5 miles almost every day and volunteering often at his local food bank in Mashpee. Throughout his life, he opened his home whenever he could to friends and family for gatherings and other celebrations. In the later part of his life, every Tuesday morning you could find him having a cup of coffee with his friends, and at every other time there was a strong possibility that he would be playing golf with anyone who would join him. At home, there was hardly a historic war documentary that he had not seen (especially about the Civil War or World War II), and he adored watching golf, college football, baseball, and any other sport that happened to be on the television. Perhaps his greatest pleasure was summering on Cape Cod with his family and friends and continuing to do so full-time when he retired later in his life with Rosemary.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Edward's memory at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at St. Christine Parish Church, 1295 Main Street in Marshfield. Interment will be at a later date.
