Edward James Cooper, 66, of Marshfield, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly on April 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Known to many as Edward, Ed, or Eddie, he was a devoted husband, father, papi, and friend, whose presence filled every room with warmth, laughter, and unwavering care.
Edward was the beloved husband and partner of Cynthia Cooper, his camping buddy and companion in everything life brought their way. Whether they were planning their next trip, sitting by a fire, or simply enjoying each other’s company, their bond was one built on love, loyalty, and a true partnership in every sense of the word. In a quiet, heartfelt moment, Edward shared with Cynthia how much their granddaughter Raelynn reminded him of Jessica as a child—remembering how she always knew exactly where the toys were when visiting Aunt Shirley’s, just like Raelynn now does. It was a reflection of how deeply he held onto memories and how much he treasured the connection between generations.
He was a proud and loving father to Nick and Jessica, and a deeply cherished Papi to his grandchildren, Caroline, Hana, and Raelynn. He also shared a special bond with Jessica’s spouse, Zach, who would have been his son-in-law, and with Nick’s wife, Christine, his beloved daughter-in-law. His family was his entire world, and he showed that every single day through his actions.
As a father to Nick, Edward was a constant presence and a steady support. He showed up to Nick’s soccer games when he was young, cheering him on from the sidelines and making sure he always knew how proud he was. He was the kind of dad who didn’t miss the important moments, and those memories will live on forever.
As a father to Jessica, he was everything a daughter could hope for. No matter what he was going through, even on his hardest days, he would show up without hesitation. He was her safe place, her biggest supporter, and her fishing buddy—her whole world. Their bond was something truly special, filled with love, laughter, and countless memories that will never fade.
As a papi, he brought so much joy, fun, and love into his grandchildren’s lives. He adored Caroline and Hana and loved cheering them on at their soccer games. With Raelynn, he found so much happiness in the simple moments—watching her dance, laugh, and hearing her say “Papi stomp like the dinosaurs.” No matter how far he had to go or how long he could stay, he always made the effort to be there, because being present for his family meant everything to him.
Edward is also survived by his siblings Sharon and spouse Bill, Sue, Gerald and spouse Ellen, Shirley and spouse Bob, and Bobby and spouse Dianna, along with many nieces and nephews—his side of the family was large, close, and full of love. He now joins in heaven his father Eric, his mother Jean, his nephew Owen, and his beloved dog Sadie, whom he missed dearly.
Edward dedicated many years of his life working as an IT technician for Hull Public Schools. He took pride in his work and was known as someone who was dependable, hardworking, and always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it.
Outside of work, Edward found his greatest happiness in the outdoors and in the moments that brought people together. He loved fishing, camping, kayaking, and riding his electric bike. He had a deep love for animals and took great joy in caring for his goats, chickens, and his fish pond. Summers were especially meaningful to him, spending countless hours by the pool, enjoying the sunshine and time with family.
He also shared a special bond with Jessica’s dog, Mack. He loved to come over to visit and play in the backyard with Mack and looked forward to their Tuesday mornings together, bringing him to doggy daycare—simple routines that brought him so much happiness.
He especially loved spending time with his loyal companion, Camo. He was always looking into new places to go camping or searching for the best ponds, lakes, and rivers to fish or kayak, always planning the next adventure and something to look forward to.
The holidays, especially Christmas, were a time when his playful spirit truly shined. Every year at “Cooper Christmas,” he would create the most ridiculous, over-the-top wrapped gifts, using just about anything he could find. Opening them became an event in itself, requiring tools, patience, and a lot of laughter. It was something everyone looked forward to, a tradition that perfectly captured his humor, creativity, and the joy he brought to his family.
To know Edward was to know a man who was funny, kind, and incredibly selfless. He had a way of making people feel comfortable, cared for, and important. He put others before himself without a second thought and carried a work ethic and level of compassion that is rare to find. He was truly one of a kind, and there is no one who could ever replace him.
One of the many memories that will live on forever is the day he helped his daughter catch her first bass on a SpongeBob fishing rod at Kelly’s Pond in Marshfield. It was a simple moment, but one filled with pride, patience, and pure happiness—everything that defined who he was as a father and as a man.
Edward James Cooper leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unforgettable memories. His impact on those who knew him will never fade, and his love will continue to live on through his family.
He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
A celebration of Edward’s life will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Rockland Golf Course, located at 276 Plain Street, Rockland, Massachusetts.
